Sunday Dinners
My family get together every Sunday for dinner. This is an ode to this life long tradition and one I hope to carry on with my own.
We are no longer just kids at home,
we're out there in the vast world,
really living,
gathering stories and experiences.
As the days flow like water,
it draws us all closer home.
Our nature
is to be together as a family.
Doorbells wait to play a familiar tune,
welcoming each member
and body.
Our space wakes and comes alive.
It's a process perfected over a lifetime,
like actors preparing for
the night;
the dining room our stage.
The ingredients are transformed with,
fire and smoke. Nothing beats
home cooked.
Each plate requires time and love.
Lights switch on, seats arranged
Plates and cutlery clink
mats placed,
our family is now gathered.
As we take our seats and fill up plates,
with a bit of everything for big
and small
This is how we do life, each Sunday.
