Nature's Edge

This was a recollection of a wonderous family day out to the beach. During this moment it was just my son and I and we explored the edges of a rock pool, standing on the fence with my son in my arms, overlooking the powerful waves crashing just at our feet.

Nature's Edge
A snapshot of our view from the edge of the rock pool, feeling nature's forces.

Nature's Edge

The sun dazzled above us high.
A beach adventure, nobody's dry.
The water sparkles bright azul
Together exploring a mini rockpool.

It's amazing we're here.
Water and sand. Things you used to fear.
Your love of the beach didn't come from me,
A grandparent's patience was the key.

As toddlers do, you became restless,
So off we went, over wet jagged surfaces.
Shuffling along a mossy green ocean pool.
Memories of careful steps and a breeze so cool.

As we moved, we saw grandpa in small talk.
Locals speaking wisdom on where to walk,
When searching for the freshest sea urchins
Or parts of the ocean to explore sans fins.

Just beyond where we stood, an eruption of salty water
Caught our eyes and drew our curiosity closer.
With you in my arms, we inched some more
We stood on the edge of land. Water let roar.

Waves crashed with violence and power
Though there was little between, we did not cower.
In these places I know the risks
But we stood strong, we drank in natures gifts.

In this moment time became still
For you my son, I, your father will
Do anything to make you secure
For I know this time is ephemeral.
